Steering in the right direction.

I’ve had some parts that’s been laying around collecting dust because of my lazy ass. Finally got around to installing them along with new upgrades. This upgrade is much needed because I’d always be so scared of the part failing while I was driving.

These are higher grade RCA bolts. Now for those who are unfamiliar with the acronym RCA. It stands for Roll Center Adjuster. See, when you lower a vehicle the geometry of all the angles in the suspension changes. The roll center changes and the car starts to act and feel lowered in a bad way. Here’s a quick picture to explain a bit more of what I’m saying.

See how stock height vehicle arms are nearly parallel/horizontal. While the lowered vehicle has the arms angled downwards? This affects the way the vehicle steers and drives. To fix this, people have created different solutions. The solution I went with is the RCA. It’s basically a block that when installed lowers the pick up points on the steering and gets it close to flat again vs angled.

If you look at the picture above. The RCA is the blue piece. Now typically the bolts on a stock vehicle is roughly 35-40 millimeters long. When you add a 30 millimeter RCA. You then have to use longer bolts so that it can bolt back on to your spindles. The problem this creates is that now there is more stress being loaded in this area. This is why it is recommended to have strong bolts. The ones that Megan Racing provided apparently isn’t strong enough. I’ve heard horror stories from people I know about their bolts snapping in half while they’re driving. This is why they recommended the upgraded bolts.

Here’s an example of what could happen with the bolt snapping off. This is my friend Ryan’s car.

So with that out of the way I decided to finally install my solid steering rack bushings. The left side is the factory rubber that the vehicle came with. The right side is the new Figs engineering solid steering rack bushing.

The install was fairly easy. Thread locked and torqued to spec. I forgot to mark the bolts off so I’ll probably do that tomorrow. Next on the list is the inner and outer tie rod upgrade. Waiting on fresh steering rack boots and they’ll be installed.
